How Do Air Conditioners Remove Humidity?

As we head toward the hottest part of the year, you may be wondering how your air conditioner helps remove the humidity that makes everything feel so hot and sticky. The key to this process is the refrigerant in your system, as refrigerant facilitates the removal of heat and humidity. If you are experiencing excessive humidity, you may want to consider the installation of a whole home dehumidifier for your home in Celco. First, let’s take a look at how the humidity is removed by your AC.

The Evaporator

Your air conditioning system has two sets of coils: the condenser coils and the evaporator coils. The reduction of humidity takes place in the evaporator coils. Once the heat from your indoors is released through the condenser coils, the cooled refrigerant travels into the evaporator coils. Warm air from your indoors is blown over the cool evaporator coils, and this meeting of warm air and cool air creates condensation. This condensation collects on the coils and then drips down to the condensate pan for removal by the condensate pipe. This action pulls the excess moisture from the air.

What If It Isn’t Enough?

We are no strangers to humidity in our area, so if you are finding that your air conditioner struggles to effectively cool your home down during periods of high humidity, you may want to consider the addition of a whole home dehumidifier to your AC. The dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air before it can become part of your air flow, making the air cooler and dryer.
