Why Does My Air Conditioning Need a Compressor?

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

How is your AC working these days? During the summer months, your AC endures a lot of wear and tear, and much of that is directed at your compressor. It’s critical to keep your system clean and well maintained at all times so that you can avoid unnecessary repairs and premature replacement. But in order to do so, you first need to recognize the importance of your air conditioner’s components. Knowing a little bit more about how your AC works goes a long way towards being able to identify problems when they are small, before they balloon into major issues. You can depend on Celco Heating and Air Conditioning for comprehensive air conditioning services in Bridgeport, CT. Call us today to find out more about what we can do to improve the comfort and convenience of your home.

All air conditioners operate on the same basic principle: heat transfer through the use of a refrigerant. In certain applications, that refrigerant is actually water, while most residential systems use the latest fluorocarbon chemical known officially as R-410A. This is the most ozone-friendly of refrigerants, though it still impacts the environment. In order for such refrigerant to work effectively–that is, to absorb and dissipate heat–it needs to undergo certain temperature changes and the most effective way to do so is by changing the pressure of the refrigerant as it circulates throughout the cycle. The most important part of this cycle is the compressor. You are probably familiar with the term, as it is a general term used in a wide variety of mechanical applications. The compressor specific to air conditioning is not unlike these others, and it has a basic function, which is to pressurize and thus circulate refrigerant throughout the condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator coil. It is the engine of the air conditioner.

Maintaining the health of your compressor is often as easy as keeping your system clean. The best way to do is by enrolling in a professional routine maintenance program. Call Celco Heating & Air Conditioning today if you’d like to learn more about our air conditioning services in Bridgeport, CT. Let us take care of your cool air.

What Are the Advantages of Replacing My Air Conditioning System?

Monday, July 29th, 2013

With regular maintenance and routine tune-ups, an air conditioning system can provide years of invaluable service. The summer heat in Westport, CT makes such maintenance even more important, since no one wants to call in a service technician in the middle of a heat wave. Sooner or later, however, every air conditioning system wears out, and it will eventually make sense to replace your air conditioning unit instead of trying to maintain the old one. There are numerous advantages to replacing an old air conditioning, which can include but are not limited to the following:

  • Higher SEER rating. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio: a handy number to measure how energy efficient your air conditioning system it. A new AC unit should have a higher SEER rating than your old unit, which means it uses less energy to perform the same job and thus saves you money on monthly bills.
  • Fewer service bills. When an air conditioning system gets old, it develops problems more often as its various components wear out. A new system with new parts won’t have those same problems, saving you money on service calls. Even in situations where a problem arises, most new air conditioning systems are covered by a warranty, which again spares you the sting of added cost.
  • A better fit for your home. Your old air conditioning system might not have been an ideal size for your home. It may be too small or too large, for instance, both of which translate into higher energy bills. If that’s the case, then a resized AC or an air conditioner utilizing a zone control system in your home could be a more efficient option than the unit you currently possess.

Whatever the reason for replacing your air conditioning, it pays to consult with an expert. The trained technicians at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning have over 35 years’ experience serving the Westport, CT area. We can perform an inspection of your home, then discuss the ideal air conditioning options for you. Call us today to set up an appointment, and let us show you the difference that great air conditioning services can make.

Why Am I Not Getting Enough Hot Water

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

The hot water heater in your home is arguably one of the most important appliances that you have. Not only does it allow you to take comfortable showers, but it also helps you sanitize your clothing and dishes. If you aren’t getting enough hot water it can be a huge inconvenience. This is a very common issue that usually requires the help of a professional New Haven, CT hot water heater contractor. There are a few different causes for this issue that we’ve discussed below. Give us a call here at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning if your tank or tankless water heater is causing any issues.

New Haven, CT Hot Water Heater Repair: Insufficient Hot Water

If your water heater isn’t producing enough hot water here are a few of the possible causes.

  • Water heater too small – If you aren’t getting enough hot water it could just be that you don’t have a big enough water heater. If this is the case, a likely solution is that you need to replace your water heater with a new, larger one. The New Haven, CT hot water heater experts at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning can help you determine exactly what size of water heater you need.
  • Sediment – Another possible cause could be that you have excess minerals or sediment built up on the bottom of your water heater. If your home has hard water it could be that the extra minerals have been deposited on the bottom of your water heater and are now preventing the heat from getting into the water. This problem may be accompanied by a rumbling or boiling sound from your water heater.
  • Dirty burner – If you haven’t properly maintained your water it could be that the burner is clogged and dirty. This might mean that part of the burner isn’t lit and you aren’t getting enough heat into the water heater.
  • Broken dip tube – In order to add new cold water, your water heater has a long tube that runs from the top of tank down to the bottom called the dip tube. This makes sure that the cold water doesn’t enter the tank at the top where all the hot water naturally collects. But if your dip tube comes loose it means that cold water is rushing into the top of the tank and cooling the hot water.
  • Tankless systems – If your tankless water heater isn’t producing enough hot water it could be that you’re putting too much demand on it. While tankless water heaters offer a number of tremendous benefits, they can start to fall short in homes that have a high demand for hot water. In these cases, multiple tankless water heaters will be necessary to meet the demand.

If your water heater is leaking, if it is rusty or if it isn’t producing enough hot water, just call the New Haven, CT hot water heater pros at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning.

What are the Benefits of Professional Air Conditioning Installation?

Monday, July 8th, 2013

Investing in a high-quality air conditioning system is a great way to ensure that your comfort will be protected on even the hottest days of the year. No matter how great an air conditioning system you purchase, though, you simply cannot expect to get the best performance that it has to offer if you fail to schedule your AC installation with a qualified professional. Contact the New Haven, CT air conditioning installation professionals at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning today for the outstanding services you need to get the most efficient and reliable performance possible from your air conditioning system.

One of the most important benefits of scheduling professional installation actually occurs prior to the installation itself. Working with a professional air conditioning installation technician is the best way to ensure that you get the right air conditioning system for your home. There are a number of different systems to choose from, and only by working with a pro can you be sure that you’ll invest in the one best suited to your home and personal cooling habits.

Another important factor to be considered prior to the installation of any air conditioning system is the sizing of that air conditioner. If your AC is too small it will overwork itself, struggling to reach target temperatures that are just beyond its capabilities. An undersized system will fare no better, short cycling frequently and incurring unnecessary wear and tear. This adds to the risk of damage to your system. In either situation, subpar comfort and poor energy efficiency are the only guaranteed outcomes. A professional air conditioning installation technician will help ensure that your AC is the right size for your home.

Finally, the greatest benefit of all that you will enjoy as a result of a professional air conditioning installation is the comfort in knowing that your system operates as effectively and reliably as it can. From the design of your air duct system to the location of your thermostats and everything else in between, scheduling your air conditioning installation with a qualified professional is the only way to ensure that the job is done right. Happy 4th of July!

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013

In the history of the United States, there are few days that hold such high importance as the 4th of July. We all remember baseball games, hot dogs, fireworks, ceremonies, patriotic music, and barbecues throughout the years as we’ve celebrated this special day. But we can quickly forget what our Independence Day is really about.

On this day in 1776, the second Continental Congress voted to approve the Declaration of Independence which was a written explanation of why America must be free from Great Britain. The legal separation of the two countries actually occurred on July 2, but Americans have celebrated on the 4th because that was the date on the much-publicized Declaration.

So whether you go to a ball game, watch the fireworks with family, barbecue some burgers or hoist a cold one with your friends, make sure that you take a moment to remember the sacrifice that many women and men made over 200 years ago to ensure the freedom that we cherish today.
