How Do Boilers Distribute Heat?

Monday, April 2nd, 2018

hydronic-heatingFor many homeowners, the word “heater” immediately conjures up and image of the furnaces in their homes. Furnaces are forced air heaters, meaning that they heat air directly and then distribute that heat throughout the house via a system of ductwork. Like any heater, furnaces have their pros and their cons. Many of these cons are corrected by the way in which a boiler, on the other hand, distributes heat throughout a house. That’s what we are going to be looking at today.

Boilers have been around for a very long time, and it is really no surprise that they maintain such a level of popularity today. While the boiler may not be right for every home or every homeowner–no heater is, or else there wouldn’t be so many options available!–it is the right fit for many situations. You don’t use your generator all that often, hopefully, and in order to know that it will be there for you when you need it most, maintenance is an absolute must.

You can also change the air filter in your generator if you so choose. This is probably the simplest step to take in order to keep your generator running properly.

Is Duct Sealing Really Necessary?

Friday, February 27th, 2015

At Celco Heating and Air Conditioning, we believe that our clients deserve to live in complete comfort. It our goal to ensure that they have everything that they need in order to do so. This includes quality air ducts, should they utilize a ducted forced air distribution system with their heaters and/or air conditioners. Even the best air ducts, though, and even those properly installed, can degrade in quality over time. Even if the air ducts themselves are fine, it is possible that the connections in the ductwork system may falter over the years. In such instances, professional duct sealing in Greenwich is absolutely necessary. Not every system will encounter these problems, no more than every home will require a new roof. However, should you suspect that there is a problem with your ductwork, we encourage you to contact us immediately. We’ll determine with certainty whether or not duct sealing is necessary in your home.

Of course, before you can go about scheduling any necessary duct sealing services, you will first have to recognize that there is a problem with your ductwork to begin with. You don’t need to diagnose the issue precisely, but it does help to have some idea that there is an issue with your ducts. Fortunately, there are a few signs which may inform you of such issues. One such sign is the occurrence of strange sounds coming from your air ducts. If you hear whistling noises, for instance, when heating and cooling your home, it may be due to leaks in your ductwork. Such air leaks can lead to energy loss and reduced indoor air quality, so having your ductwork professionally sealed promptly is a top priority.

Because leaky ductwork can lead to wasted energy, a spike in your heating and cooling costs is another strong indicator that there is a problem with your ductwork. There are a few different problems that may lead to such a spike, so it is important that you have a professional evaluate the situation. You may also notice a decline in indoor air quality, as pollutants can make their way into leaky ductwork and then throughout your entire home. By sealing your ductwork professionally, our team can help you to breathe the high quality of air that you deserve.

Duct sealing in Greenwich is a service that can benefit a number of homeowners. However, it is not necessarily a service that everyone will find necessary. Should it be, though, duct tape and DIY sealing attempts are off the table. Schedule your duct sealing services with a qualified technician on our staff.

If you believe that there may be a problem with your ductwork, it is wise to schedule service with the pros at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning to find out for certain.

How Does Ductless Heating Work?

Monday, November 10th, 2014

If you’re looking for a reliable heating system for your entire home or a single room but don’t want to deal with the hassle of installation, you’re in luck. Ductless heating systems are now used all across the United States as a whole-home heating and air conditioning solution. Ductless mini splits are a fairly new innovation gaining a lot of popularity these due to efficiency and the ease of installation.

The system consists of two major components: the outdoor compressor unit and the indoor air handler. The only real construction that must be completed is a small hole drilled into the wall to feed through the refrigerant line. The indoor air handler is mounted up high on the wall or suspended from the ceiling and acts as the air distribution port. You will need multiple indoor air handlers to heat or cool an entire home. Let’s take a look inside these units and discuss whether ductless heating is right for your home in Greenwich.

Inside a Ductless Mini Split

A ductless mini split consists of two major components. The outdoor portion contains a compressor and an outdoor coil, while the indoor air handler contains a blower fan and another coil. The ductless mini split essentially works as an air conditioner in the summer months. Refrigerant cycles throughout the entire system. As it passes through the indoor coil, it converts into a gas and absorbs heat from the air in your home. It then travels outside to release the heat, as the blower fan blows cool air into the room.

In the cooler months, the system simply works in reverse. The reversing valve is the component that allows refrigerant to flow in the opposite direction. So, refrigerant evaporates at the outdoor coil and absorbs heat from the air outside to move into your home instead.

Is It Right for My Home?

Ductless heating may not be right for every home. If you already own a set of ductwork, there’s no reason to install a ductless heating system. In fact, you may need an additional heating system as temperatures come close to 30 degrees as your ductless unit may not be able to draw in enough heat. However, in general, a ductless mini split is one of the most efficient heating and cooling systems you could purchase for your home.

Call the expert team at Celco Heating and Air Conditioning to learn more about your options for ductless heating in Greenwich.
