Staying Cool Is Easier Than You Think! Try These Five Tips

hand drawing check box on a white backgroundIt’s no secret that air conditioning can be a real lifesaver during the hot summer months. Especially in our Connecticut heat.

But did you know that there are a few simple things you can do to keep your AC running more efficiently?

If you’re worried about your air conditioning in Celco, follow these tips. We’ll show you how you can stay cool all summer long without breaking the bank.

1.    Get your AC unit serviced regularly.

Just like any other appliance in your home, regular maintenance is key to keeping your AC unit running smoothly. Be sure to have it serviced by a qualified technician at least once a year, and more often if it’s being used heavily.

After all, you don’t want to find yourself without a working AC unit on the hottest day of the year, do you?

2.    Make sure your home is properly insulated.

Good insulation will help keep the cool air inside your home and prevent warm air from seeping in. This will help your AC unit run less often, and save you money on your energy bill.

Efficient ways to insulate your home include:

  • Installing weatherstripping around doors and windows
  • Sealing gaps and cracks in your home’s exterior
  • Adding insulation to your attic

3.    Use a ceiling fan.

Ceiling fans can help circulate the air in your home and make it feel cooler even when the temperature isn’t actually that different. This is because ceiling fans create a wind-chill effect that makes you feel cooler.

Be sure to use them in conjunction with your AC unit for maximum efficiency and comfort.

4.    Close the blinds or curtains during the daytime.

Sure, it’s a beautiful day outside and you want to enjoy the view. But those sun rays aren’t going to help in the battle for keeping your home cool. Instead they turn your home into a greenhouse, trapping heat inside and making you feel like you’re sitting in a sauna.

By closing your blinds or curtains while the sun is pointing in the direction of your windows, you’ll be keeping the sun out of your home which will ultimately help keep it cooler, and prevent your AC unit from working overtime.

5.    Don’t set the thermostat lower than necessary.

We know it’s tempting to crank down the AC when it’s blazing hot outside, but this won’t actually cool your home any faster. It will just make your AC unit work harder, and use more energy. That’s because it takes longer to cool your home down from a higher temperature than it does from a lower one.

So instead of setting the thermostat to 60 degrees, try 65 or 70. You’ll still be cool and comfortable, and your AC unit will thank you for it.

Chill out!

By following these simple tips, you can keep your home cool and comfortable all summer long without wasting energy or money. If you have any concerns about your AC unit, be sure to consult a qualified technician for assistance.
